Zines and zine-making are well-documented areas of book culture and bookmaking, namely because zine-making is historically grassroots and DIY. Zines, so far as bookmaking is concerned, are the essence of “books can be made of next to nothing yet hold next to anything.” Resources included on this page introduce zines and zine culture as well as instructional sources on popular zine constructions.

Booklyn Education Manual (Booklyn.org) Offering written and graphic instructions for several common zine book forms, the “Booklyn Education Manual is a combination of instruction sheets, lesson plans, and resources to introduce you to bookmaking or to complement the bookmaking you already do.”The Booklyn Education Manual is available in English and Spanish Language versions.

ABC No Rio Zine Library. (n.d.). ABC No Rio. With over 13,000 zines in the collection, the library collects zines relevant to social and political issues, especially related to or emerging in the context of Lower Manhattan. As stated on the library’s information page: “Zine collections allow actors in contemporary social movements to learn about the lineage of their communities.”
